Gerald Peyton has been a diehard baseball fan all of his life, and now he helps younger players share his love of the game.
“I grew up around a baseball oriented family,” said Peyton. “I would watch my uncles play with the Ofahoma Braves (Leake County) on a field constructed on land that my grandfather donated.”
Although he watched his uncles play, Peyton got his real start with his mother, Mrs. Myra Peyton, in the front yard of their family home.
“I had an older brother who was born crippled, and my mom would sit in the yard and hold him with one hand and throw me ground balls with the other,” said Peyton. “I would then have to run the ball back to her and then run back to my spot.”
