Training exercise will simulate a school shooting

Mock exercise will be held at Yazoo County High next Thursday at 9 a.m.

By JAMIE PATTERSON

Yazoo County emergency officials will hold a mock shooter exercise next week at Yazoo County High School.
The Yazoo County Emergency Management Agency planned the exercise before news of the Connecticut school shooting made headlines last month. With 26 people killed during that tragic incident, local officials feel it is better to be prepared.
“This event was actually planned prior to the tragedy that took place in Sandy Hook, Connecticut,” said Yazoo County EMA Director Bernice McGinnis. “The Yazoo County School District wanted to take a proactive approach in an effort to be better prepared if such a terrible incident were to occur in this county.”
The exercise will be held at the high school on Jan. 17, beginning at 9 a.m.
