Firefighters save man from burning apartment

By JASON PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Yazoo City firefighters entered a blazing apartment and saved a man’s life Friday night.
After responding to a fire call at Shady Lane Apartments at around 10:30 p.m., firefighters found a crowd of people screaming that someone was still inside a burning apartment on the second floor.
“Several of us entered the apartment while others set up a ladder in the back,” said Captain Roosevelt Johnson Jr. “We found the resident inside at a window. He had broken the glass out with his hands, and his arms were extremely bloody.”
Firefighters carried the resident, a male in his 30s, out of the apartment and administered CPR before providing oxygen.
“He’s going to be OK,
Johnson said.
Johnson said the fire appeared to have originated in the kitchen.
“It was pretty bad,” he said. “This could have easily have been a much worse situation.”
Yazoo Fire Chief Roy Wilson said he is proud of the effort of his men.
