Clementine Brown finds comfort in the artwork of her late companion Chet Matthews. An art scholarship was recently formed in his honor.Clementine Brown finds comfort in the artwork of her late companion Chet Matthews. An art scholarship was recently formed in his honor.By JAMIE PATTERSON

Chet Matthews was only a small boy when his God-given talent began to make an appearance.
Sitting at the kitchen table with his grandmother preparing supper, he would watch her cook while holding a pencil.
It wasn’t long before he put the pencil to paper. With ease, the blank sheet of paper was transformed into a beautiful creation.
“He was a natural,” said Clementine Brown, Chet’s 30-year companion. “He would just sit at the table and draw while he watched his grandmother cook. He always loved it.”
Chet was 50 years old when he was killed in a farming accident over a year ago. But Clementine keeps his artwork as a reminder of the man he was to her through their years together.
“He was a kind, very loving man,” she said, with tears in her eyes. “He loved me dearly.”
Chet could usually be found at his farming job. He had a reputation for being a hard worker.
