The Yazoo City Lady Indians notched their second win of the season this week with a 42-27 victory over the visiting Callaway Lady Chargers. Yazoo City improved to 2-5 on the season with their other win coming over Humphreys County during the Gentry Invitational during the Thanksgiving holiday break.
The Lady Indians opened the game against Callaway with a 10-7 first quarter and never looked back. After outscoring the Lady Chargers 9-8 in the second quarter to take a 19-15 halftime lead, Yazoo City went on to outscore Callaway 23-12 in the second half to pull away with the win.
Despite a cold shooting night from its perimeter players, Yazoo City benefited from another stellar performance from senior forward Aliesha Hudson. Hudson, Yazoo City’s leading scorer and rebounder, poured in a game-high 19 points and recorded her fourth double-double of the season, adding 14 rebounds.
Other scorers for the Lady Indians were Bracey Granderson with eight, Aaliyah Diew with five, Jonquil Dent, Angela Hudson and Kortnee Hill all with three and Dominique Burks with one.
The Lady Indians and first-year head coach Natacha Fullilove have already doubled their 2011-2012 win total and are looking forward to adding more wins as the season progresses. The Lady Indians traveled to Lanier on Thursday and face off with rival Yazoo County today.
