Making history isn’t easy.
It couldn’t have been much more difficult for Tri-County Academy Friday. The Rebels were down until the end, when Ryan Cothern scored a five-yard touchdown in overtime.
And with that touchdown, the Rebels made plenty of history with a 13-0 win over Wilkinson County Christian.
TCA captured its second straight Class A state title, the fourth in school history, and finished the season undefeated at 14-0. The Rebels also extended the state’s longest active high school football winning streak to 27 games.
But all of those records were in doubt until the fourth quarter Friday as Wilkinson Christian did what no other team had been able to do all season -- keep Tri-County out of the endzone.
“We were getting whipped for two and a half quarters,” said TCA coach David Blount. “They were bigger than we realized, and much more aggressive than anything we had seen on film.”
Taylor Prevost punched in a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Prevost added his own extra point kick to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.
