Four members of the Yazoo Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution attended Rosalie Day on Oct. 17.
Those members were Janet Looney Whittington, MSSDAR State Regent, JoAnne Gibbs Collins, Yazoo Chapter Regent, Priscilla Allen Harper, Yazoo Chapter Vice Regent and Wendy Davis Cartwright, Yazoo Chapter Registrar.
The festivities began on Oct. 16 with a candlelight reception and tour at Rosalie Mansion. The ladies enjoyed these two days renewing acquaintances with other “Daughters” of the American Revolution from around the state.
On Oct. 17, Rosalie Day activities were led by Cindy Phillips, Rosalie Governing Board Chairman. After introducing the dignitaries with the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Rosalie Governing Board members to the “Daughters,” who were enjoying a beautiful fall day on the front lawn of Rosalie a business meeting was held. This was followed by a box luncheon, where MSSDAR State Regent Janet Whittington was surprised with a birthday cake. This was to not only honor her on her birthday, but to honor her three years as the MSSDAR State Regent.
Contributions were offered by chapters and members to help maintain Rosalie and keep “Our Lady on the Bluff” looking beautiful. The Yazoo Chapter NSDAR donated money collected at each meeting for a year to help with Rosalie.
Priscilla Harper, MSSDAR Hospitality Chairman who had arranged and provided fall table decorations for the 20 tables, sold everyone of them at the end of the box luncheon with all proceeds going to Rosalie.
A lovely costume skirt and extra material was also donated to the Rosalie collection of antebellum dresses by Priscilla Harper. These dressed are worn by the members who hostess during Fall and Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez.
In the midst of Rosalie Day, all of the members lined the walkway to the front of Rosalie and welcomed a busload of DAR ladies from the state of Illinois. When they left touring the Mansion, one of our members in costume handed each Illinois DAR member a tin from MSSDAR with a picture of Rosalie on it as a remembrance of their visit.
