Indians defeat Callaway 19-0 to end season

For the Herald
The Yazoo City Indians needed a 12-point victory over the Callaway Chargers last Friday night to even have a chance to be considered for entry into the upcoming playoffs. And while the Indians succeeded in achieving that goal with a 19-0 shutout victory, they still find themselves out of the playoffs after a three-way tie for the third and fourth district playoff spots went to Provine and Canton, respectively.
Heading into Friday’s game with Callaway, five teams were tied with identical district records. After the win, the Indians, Rams and Tigers all had identical 3-4 district records. After going through all tie-breaker procedures, the Tigers were awarded the final spot over Yazoo City because their point differential in district games played (+3) was better than Yazoo City’s (0).
The decision is a tough pill to swallow for the Indians and head coach Tony Woolfolk, especially because the Indians defeated Canton in district play.
