Take away one quarter in Friday nights contest between Manchester Academy and Canton Academy in Canton and the Mavericks would be heading to the MAIS AA playoffs this week.
The Panthers (7-3) took a 21-0 halftime lead with all their points coming in the second quarter.
A second half surge by the Mavericks wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, eventually losing a heartbreaker by the score of 28-14.
"We made some bad plays (in the second quarter)," Mavericks head coach Benny McLendon said. "Not taking care of the ball really hurt us."
