Yazoo City High School will be hosting a basketball jamboree this weekend.
The full Saturday of basketball will include a contest between the arch-rivals Yazoo City versus Yazoo County.
The Indians hope the tournament will help them find identities for both young teams.
“This (tournament) will help give us a chance to see what we need to work on,” said Archie Carlyle, Yazoo City’s head varsity coach. “We’ll need some time to find the right combination.”
As for Yazoo County, the girls team is top heavy with many seniors on the roster. But head coach Patrick Nutter said many players will be contributing this year.
“It will be good to see which players gel together,” Nutter said. “Sometimes it’s hard to tell how each player plays when it’s only against their teammates. It’ll be good to finally play someone different.”
The tournament will consist of teams from around the area, many which the four Yazoo teams will be playing throughout the season.
