Farmers Market brings new life to Benton

Andrea Wilson has been pleased with the enthusiastic response to the Farmers Market that opens every Saturday in Benton.Andrea Wilson has been pleased with the enthusiastic response to the Farmers Market that opens every Saturday in Benton.By JAMIE PATTERSON

There is a small patch of land in Benton that is a snapshot of days gone by.
The Benton Farmers Market takes visitors back in time when rural communities came together to exchange goods, shoot the breeze and look out for each other.
“This is a place where the community can gather together,” said Andrea Wilson, owner and organizer of the county’s only farmer’s market. “It is very much like the old times out here.”
A family arrives by a mule to pick up a batch of fresh eggs and syrup.
Knitted scarves and hats can be found next to a basket of fresh herbs.
A crate of fresh fruit is not uncommon.
