Many consumers today turn to the Internet for their shopping needs.
Purchasing a new pair of shoes, the latest technological gadget or trendy piece of art can be a mouse click away.
Nobody is more aware of that than local Mom-and-Pop shops and other local merchants.
And with no sales taxes collected on most online purchases, it’s not a level playing field for local businesses.  
However, there is legislation in the works that could protect local retailers as they continue to compete with online sales.
