Alderman says citizens’ voices should be heard

Members of the audience at this week’s city council meeting were visibly pleased with one alderman’s comment involving public participation.
Ward 4 Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. said public comments should be included with every meeting’s agenda.
“I truly feel that the public should have an opportunity to address the board,” Brent said. “So at the end of every meeting, I think the last item (on the agenda) should be public comment.”
One citizen raised his hand during the latest city council meeting to address the board. But he wasn’t recognized.
“Just like I see that there were some people out there who wished to say something,” Brent said. “I feel that they should be allowed to speak.”
Although Brent said he wishes to hear from the public, he stressed that comments must be conducted in an orderly fashion.
