Constitution Week

Local members of the Yazoo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and chairman of Constitution Week in Yazoo City joined Mayor McArthur Straughter as he signed a document proclaiming Sept. 17-23 as “Constitution Week” in Yazoo. The local DAR hopes to bring attention to the U.S. Constitution during the week with a display at Ricks Memorial Library. On Monday at 3 p.m., bells will ring out in Yazoo City and across America as participating churches ring their bells as part of “Bells Across America.” The DAR urges citizens to be informed, read the Constitution, exercise your right to vote and watch for attacks on the Constitution. Sept. 17 marks the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Pictured with Straughter as he signs the proclamation, are from left, DAR members Priscilla Harper, JoAnne Collins, Beja Everett, Ava Hale and Vay Gregory McGraw.
