Olden’s collection of ancient artifacts on display at JSU gallery
By JAMIE PATTERSON
While Sam Olden was living in Peru during the 1970s, he discovered an assortment of ceramic vessels from ancient Andean American cultures.
Finding many items scattered among rural markets, he began an extensive collection of the pieces.
“Farmers were finding these pieces and didn’t know what they were,” Olden said, perusing through photographs of the collection. “They were selling them in markets. I can remember each event surrounding the purchase of them.”
