WILLIE APRIL SR.
Willie B. April Sr., 73, died Aug. 14, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at Bell Chapel M.B. Church in Vaughan with Rev. Danny Harris officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. April was born Nov. 8, 1938.
Serving as pallbearers were Herbert Marshall, Donald Mills, Jeremy Harrell, Eddie Lee Marshall Jr., Johnny April Jr. and Anthony Gunter.
Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Woodberry Jr., Don Hudson, Steve Wilson, Dwayne April, Willie B. April Jr. and Percel April.
TERESA LEE
Teresa S. Lee, 84, of Moro, Ark., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 in Wynne, Ark.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Rev. Bill Hutto officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lee was born on May 5, 1928 in Burgos, Spain to Madesto Santamaria and Vicenta Peretio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Lee, and son, Francis Lee.
Survivors include her daughter, Anette Lee Wright of Moro, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Diane Lee of Jackson.
STEVEN GRAYER
Steven Dixon Grayer, 42, died Aug. 9, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at St. Matthew Church of God in Christ with Rev. Jim Dixon Jr. officiating.
Mr. Grayer was born Feb. 20, 1970 to the late Bertha Mae Grayer and Jim A. Dixon Jr. He was a 1988 graduate of Yazoo City High School and attended Holmes Community College. He worked in sales, advertising and as a trucker until his health began to fail. He was a member of Big Bethel M.B. Church.
Survivors include his fiance, Marilyn Wright; six brothers, Willie Grayer and Pervious Tuck, both of Yazoo City, Rev. Jim Dixon Jr. (Nellie) of Vaughan, Rev. Lawrence Dixon (Inez) of Canton, Willie Earl Dixon (Johnnie) of Jackson and Richard Hudson of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Theoshia Phillips of Lexington and Arisa of Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Andrea Fox, Kerioon Grant, Michael Haralson, Norvel King, Willie Richardson Jr. and Ricky Stubblefield.
Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Wright and Alex McNeil.
INEZ STRAUGHTER
Inez Straughter, 78, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2012 at home.
Visitation will be Friday from noon to 6:30 p.m. at Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home.
Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tulane M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Straughter was born May 9, 1934 in Louise. He retired from Mississippi Chemical Corporation after 40 years of service and worked as a school bus driver and funeral director for Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home. He was a member of Tulane M.B. Church, where he served in many capacities, including deacon, trustee and vice president of the Usher Board. He served as videographer for many weddings, family reunions and other events.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Scott Straughter; two sons, Kenneth Straughter (Tachanda) of Madison and Marcus Straughter; a daughter, Gale Straughter Stamps; and seven grandchildren.
ALLEN TORRANS SR.
Allen Dale Torrans Sr., 71, of Satartia, died on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Mr. Torrans was born on Dec. 23, 1940 in McLeod, Texas to Albert Walker Torrans and Ruby Lee Sawyers. He was retired from environmental safety and was a member of Tinsley Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Warner, Iva Paige Fritz-Lester, Louise Dalrymple and Onnie Odom.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ragland Torrans of Satartia; two sons, Allen D. Torrans Jr. of Nederland, Texas and Shayne Torrans of Kingwood, Texas; three brothers, James Torrans of Longview, Texas, Jerry Torrans of Pasadena, Texas and David Torrans of Norman, Okla.; sister, Joyce Claburn of Monahan, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
JESSIE MAE VEAZEY
Jessie Mae Veazey, 71, of Benton, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Will Veazey officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Veazey was born on Dec. 3, 1940 in Yazoo County to Wesley and Bertha Anderson.
She worked with the food service at Benton Academy. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” Veazey of Benton; two sons, James W. Veazey of Grenada and Bill Veazey of New York; brother, Leo Anderson of Yazoo City; three sisters, Mary Stevens and Bonnie Brooks of Yazoo City and Betty McMaster of Gulfport; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers are Joe Frazier, Bubba Veazey, Jonaphin Sotz, Hugh Gordon Jr., Kurt Carver and Steve Cheatham.
NELLIE ZIGLAR
Nellie Mae Ziglar, 91, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Monday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Sonny Bradshaw and Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Ziglar was born Nov. 13, 1920 in Yazoo County to Robert Jasper Hanna and Sally Elizabeth Pierce Hanna. She was a retired medical records clerk for King’s Daughters Hospital and a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Houston Ziglar.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Ziglar of Madison and James Elrod Torrance of Randolf; three daughters, Betty Helen Ross of Laport, Texas, Roman Sims of Richland and Virginia Everett of Proctor, Ark.; stepdaughter, Jeannie Potter of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sisters, Castella Harbelle of Mendin, La., June Arender Munn of Yazoo City; and Vera McMichael of Yazoo City; sister-in-law, Ava Lou Davis of Austin, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons.
