On Saturday afternoon, all the action in Yazoo City could be found on Manchester Academy’s softball field, where the school hosted its annual softball tournament.
Six teams came to Yazoo City for the tournament with Hillcrest Christian School defeating Bayou Academy in the championship game Saturday night. Manchester Academy went 2-1 in its three games, ending in a semifinal round loss to Bayou, while Benton Academy went 1-2, ending their day with an 8-1 victory over Indianola Academy.
“We played well at times. With this tournament, it was a long day and we were able to stay focused,” Manchester head coach A.J. Downs said. “We had people step up and have good at bats.”
“We would have loved to win the tournament, but we wanted to get better at certain things we need to work on to win district,” Benton head coach Vince Davis said. “We also wanted to be prepared and put ourselves in a position to win district.”
