BOBBIE LEWIS
Bobbie Jean Lewis, 72, died July 19, 2012.
Funeral services were Wednesday at the New Zion Multi-Purpose Building with Rev. Willie E. Smith officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. Lewis was born Oct. 28, 1939 to Heldred Lewis and Geneva Christopher in Yazoo City. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 16 with the blessings of his father, but had to return home due to his age. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ella Robertson; and a grandson, Randall Banks.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemund; 12 children, David Lewis (Anne), Denise Lewis (Victor), Paul Lewis, Paulette Lewis, Angela Lewis, Torome Lewis, Dorris Banks, Sharon Woodard (J.D.), Barbara Brown, Johnny Davis, Tony Davis (Jimmie Mae), and Janice Chambers; two brothers, Willie Lewis (Lurlie) of Yazoo City and James Edward Calhoun of Chicago; 38 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were J.D. Woodard, William Patterson, Gary Haymer, Roy Farris, Charles Thompson and John Henry Patterson.
Honorary Pallbearers were Tony Davis, Torome Davis, David Lewis, Kenny Lewis, Antwan Robinson and Johnny Davis.
