City schools add “teeth” to student behavior rules

Yazoo City's school children will face stiffer penalties this year for misbehavior on the school buses, thanks to a new student handbook with more “teeth” in it.
That's how Dr. Arthur Cartlidge described the new edition, explaining that “the code of behavior, in particular, was the one main thing we wanted to re-address because, as you know, there were some situations last year where we needed some more teeth in the handbook.”
Trustee Lula Starling voiced opposition to a 10-day suspension for all age students from the buses for misbehavior. She said the policy was perhaps too harsh for kindergarten and early elementary students.
