School officials say they don’t want tax hike

Trustees call newspaper’s coverage of budget proposals “yellow journalism”
By VERNON SIKES
Herald Correspondent

“We have not asked for an increase (in funding from the city),” said Dr. Arthur Cartlidge, superintendent of the Yazoo City Municipal School District, Thursday during the July school board meeting as the discussion turned to the district's budget.
“We simply presented a proposal to the mayor,” Cartlidge said. “In that proposal, it did talk about what it would take to do what we want to do. However, there was no approval for us to ask for an increase, and at this point in time, we have not asked for an increase.”
