Meeting set for Bentonia crosses

Funds being raised to erect lighted crosses on private land in Bentonia
By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

The public is invited to a meeting on June 30 at 7 p.m. to discuss the efforts to erect lighted crosses on private property in Bentonia.
The meeting will be held at Bentonia Baptist Church.
A private fundraising effort was established after the town of Bentonia was forced to remove lighted crosses from the town’s water tower following a threat of litigation from the American Civil Liberties Union.
Rev. D.J. Speckner, pastor of Bentonia Baptist Church, said the estimated cost of building a tower with lighted crosses is $25,000. So far around $3,500 in donations have been received.
