If it would have happened in any of the previous few days, heavy rainfall would have been on their side.
But instead Yazoo City firefighters had hot weather against them as they battled a blaze in a residence on Grand Avenue Monday.
“Heat exhaustion is a factor on days like this,” said Fire Chief Roy Wilson. “We keep plenty of drinking water on the trucks and just try to watch out for each other.”
It’s hot enough inside a smoldering home, but the heavy gear required to survive those conditions makes it much worse. Exhausted firefighters quickly removed their masks and heavy jackets after emerging from the home.
