ALLENE BRADEN
Allene Harris Braden, 70, died July 1, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at New Zion M.B. Church with Rev. Willie E. Smith officiating. Burial followed at Captain Simmons Cemetery in Benton under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Braden was born Jan. 19, 1942 in Benton to Luther and Maggie Harris. She was a homemaker and married Johnny Braden in 1970.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John Boy; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include three children, Staycie Brown (Danny) of Yazoo City, Precious Braden and Luther Harris, both of Dayton, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Dexter Brown, Andre Carter, Woodrow Harris, Charles Sanders, Jeffrey Thomas and Michael Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers were Danny Brown, Luther Wayne Harris, Charles Kyles, James Little, Leroy Mason and Henry Thomas.

JOHN BURNS Jr.

John L. Burns Jr., 75, died June 5, 2012
Funeral services were Monday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Burns was born Sept. 8, 1936 in Yazoo County. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, the Mississippi National Guard and International Paper. He was a member of Benton Baptist Church.
He  was a devoted husband, beloved father, and great friend to many.  He had a passion for life and made friends and strangers feel that they were the most important people. He was a man of integrity and unselfishness, with a wonderful sense of humor. An avid outdoorsman and traveler, he has made this last trip to be with God.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Barbara Fay Ziegler Burns; sons, Tommy Burns (Connie) of Yazoo City, David Burns (Cindy) of Ankara, Turkey and                 Michael Burns (Dawn) of Centerville, Ohio; grandchildren: Jennifer Jenkins, Jonathan Burns, Meghan Burns, Shannon Burns, Avail Burns, Jesse Burns, Annie Burns, Abbie Burns; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to The Gideons.

JOANN HOGAN
Joann “Dap” Hogan, 49, died June 28, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at Mileston Elementary School in Tchula with Rev. Joe Redmond officiating. Burial followed at Horseshoe Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Ms. Hogan was born Nov. 11, 1962 in Holmes County to Frank and Alma Jean Hogan. She was a 1980 graduate of the Tchula Attendance Center and a member of Beulah Grove M.B. Church.
Serving as pallbearers were Wesley Brown, Joe Redmond III, Vernon Jackson, Robert Gibbs, Eric Gibbs and Donald Gary.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Hogan, Bruce Hogan, Terry Hogan, Ted Hogan, James Chambers and Glenn Mitchell.

ALONZO KIRKLAND Jr.
Alonzo Vivian Kirkland Jr., 75, died June 21, 2012.
Funeral services were June 28 at Tulane M.B. Church with Rev. Gilbert Andrews officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Knight & Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mr. Kirkland was born June 18, 1937 in Yazoo City to Alonzo Vivian Kirkland Sr. and Velma Williams Kirkland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a 1957 graduate of Yazoo City Training School. He also attended Tougaloo College. He was retired from Pennzoil Oil Company.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie White Kirkland; children, Danny Kirkland of Miami, Douglas Kirkland of Yazoo City, Carey Kirkland (Angela) of Madison, Felicia Kirkland Robinson (Terence) of Byram and Shunna Kirkland Wilson (Cecil) of Ridgeland; mother, Velma Williams Kirkland of Yazoo City; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

JOHN PERRY Sr.
John W. Perry, Sr., 86, born in Bentonia and a resident of Zachary, La., died Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
Funeral services were Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary with Father Jeff Bayhi and Father Mike Collins officiating.
Prior to retiring from a 42 year career with the Illinois Central Railroad, he was a past president of the Zachary Rotary Club. Before and after retirement, he was also an active member of the St. John the Baptist Men's Club. However, his true passion was a life devoted to his family and friends and simple values, he never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Nell Dougherty Perry; one daughter, Janelle Simms Elliott (Buddy), of  Baton Rouge; three sons, John W. Perry, Jr. (Fran), James P. Perry ( Margaret), and Joseph D. Perry (Christy), all of Baton Rouge; a brother Harold D. Perry of Bentonia,  a sister, Emma Claire Rauscher of Audubon, N.J.and 10 grandchildren, Erin C. Perry, John W. Perry, III, Steven J. Perry, Jennifer Perry, Nicholas Perry, Garrett Simms, Benjamin Simms, Clay Elliott, Kathryn Elliott, and Claire Frances Perry.  
Serving as pallbearers were his grandchildren.

W.E. SANFORD Jr.

William Eugene “W.E.” Sanford Jr., 81, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at home.
Visitation is today from 1-2 p.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Cortez Hutchinson and Rev. R.B. McNeer officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Sanford was born Sept. 17, 1930 to William E. Sanford Sr. and Myrtle Bostic Sanford. He was an office administrator for Pennzoil Corp. and a member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel F. Sanford; and a son, William “Bill” Sanford.
Survivors include a brother, Leonard Sanford (Belle) of Brandon; sisters, Christine King of Benton; Earline Strickland (Buddy) of Yazoo City, Faye Burchfield (Hughey) of Senatobia and Diane Harlow (Eddy) of Clinton; two grandsons, Mark Sanford (Taylor) of Scottsdale, Arizona and Austin Sanford (Stephanie) of Pontotoc; and great grandchild, Addison Sanford; daughter-in-law, Tammy Sanford of Yazoo City; and special friend Warner Rene Hilderbrand of Yazoo City.
Serving as pallbearers were John Strickland, Lee Harlow, Billy Melton, Steve Strickland, Ronnie Sanford and Joseph Mohamed Jr.

HERBERT SUTTLAR Jr.

Herbert Suttlar Jr., 84, died June 27, 2012.
Funeral services were July 3 at Tulane M.B. Church with Rev. Gilbert E. Andrews officiating. Burial followed at Yazoo Memorial Park under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. Suttlar was born Oct. 6, 1927 in Valley to Herbert Sr. and Carrie Suttlar. He was a 1947 graduate of Yazoo City Training School No. 2. He excelled in football and track during his high school years, which earned him the nickname “Flash.” He was also treasurer of his high school class.
He retired in 1991 from Mississippi Chemical Corporation as a supervisor in the maintenance division after 42 years of service. He was a member of Tulane M.B. Church, where he served in many capacities.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Suttlar; six children, Debra E. Evans of Memphis, Tenn., Anne F. Payton of Jackson, Herbert Suttlar III (Deborah) of Little Rock, Ark., Michael D. Suttlar (Remona) of Yazoo City, Karen E. Suttlar of Yazoo City and Alice M. Suttlar of Jackson; two sisters, Marie Hatchett (Jack) of Flint, Mich. and Amy Lee Williams of Benton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were John Wesley Ingram, Brandon Kincaid, Jamal McKee, Jalen Nelson, Desmond Smith and Dante Williams.

LYMAN TAIT Sr.

Lyman E. Tait Sr., 61, died July 6, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Monday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Tait was born May 12, 1951 in Yazoo County to Charles and Gracie Covey Tait. He was an instrument supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Tait of Bentonia; son, Lyman Tait Jr. of Bentonia; daughters, Stacey Tait of Bentonia and Danielle Watson of Alabama; stepson, Justin Figgemeier of Biloxi; mother, Gracie Tait of Bentonia and eight grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Gordon E. Muskgrove Jr., Bill Walker, Mark Glascoe and W.A. Sims Jr.
