Brent’s PSC board pick sparks heated debate

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Nominations to city boards often draw a lively debate  among city leaders.
And this year’s nominations were no different as a heated discussion surrounding the Public Service Commission unfolded during this week’s Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting.
Cynthia Walker appeared before the board during its open meeting Friday afternoon with 300 signatures in support of her stance on the PSC board appointment.
“I’m their voice,” she said.
Walker asked the board to reappoint Dr. William Nelson to the PSC board. Nelson has served on the commission board for several years.
Walker said she had a petition that contained 300 signatures in support of Nelson’s reappointment. She told the board that she was able to acquire those 300 signatures within 24 hours.
