Senators create new provisions regarding levees

The Yazoo Herald

U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran is among a group of lawmakers who are optimistic that new provisions regarding levees will lead to a longterm reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program.
Senators Cochran (R-Miss.), David Vitter (R-La.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) announced a new agreement on the treatment of levees Thursday.
The new agreement is designed to more fairly recognize the protection offered by levees and other flood control structures, eliminating the one-size-fits-all approach taken by the original proposal.
