Melvin Baker Jr.
Melvin James Baker Jr., 21, of Yazoo City, died June 9, 2012.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Yazoo County High School under the direction of Knight and Lindsey Funeral Home.
Melvin was born on May 16, 1991 in Jackson to Bertha Moton and Melvin Baker Sr. He also had a special “Pops,” Andrew Moton. He was the oldest of three children.
Melvin attended Galilee Baptist Church at an early age. He spent most of his time with family and friends. He always kept a smile on his face. He was a hard worker and a very driven young man. His first jobs were at McDonald’s, Hastee Tastee and Levi Strauss. He was currently employed with Calasonic, a Nissan supplier.
Survivors include his mother, Bertha Moton; father, Melvin Baker Sr; special “Pops,” Andrew Moton; grandparents, Bennie (Alice) of Grenada, Annie (L.C.) Woodard of Yazoo City, Manela Green of Pennsauken, N.J., Charlene Sawyer, and James Taylor; three children, McKendric Davis, Carlei Baker and Melvin Baker III; three sisters, Octavia Green, Melieka Baker and Ja’Melya Baker; five brothers, Yarvin Green, Andrew Moton Jr., Deverrius Willis, Artavius Willis, and Rorecoss Willis; three godsisters, Jocelyn Lang, Quatasia Haymer and Akia Little; special friend, Krystal Davis; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special group of friends known as “The Lot Boys.”

Joseph “John” Christmas Sr., 91, died June 8, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at Triune M.B. Church with Rev. A.B. Brown officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Knight & Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mr. Christmas was born Jan. 29, 1921 in Edwards to David Christmas and Minnie Warner. He married Lover Lee Jones in 1937, and they had 12 children. For 36 years he worked as a sharecropper on various cotton plantations. He later worked as a garbage collector before accepting a job at AMCO, where he worked for 20 years. After retiring at age 62, he started a home-based snow cone business that he managed for another 19 years. He was a member of Truine M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Rosie Mae Hodge Langley; sons, Joseph Christmas Jr., Isaac and Sylvester Lloyd; brothers, Isaac, Charlie, Jessie Lee and Alex Adams Jr.; and sisters, Rosie Lee, Jane and Helen Adams.
Survivors include his sons, Elmer Lee Christmas, James Earl Christmas, Eddie Lewis Christmas, Larry Christmas and Charles Christmas (Mary); his daughters, Elizabeth Christmas-Jones, Joyce Marie Christmas and Clra Ann Christmas; 18 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were the deacons of Triune M.B. Church.
Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Lee Christmas, James Earl Christmas, Larry Christmas, Lathia Davidson and Darrion Christmas.
