Superintendent calls for tougher grading scale

By VERNON SIKES
Herald Correspondent

Noting that the Yazoo City Municipal School District has “a problem with low expectations,” interim Superintendent Dr. Arthur Cartlidge said Thursday, “we're going to always get what we're getting if we don't raise our expectations in this school district.”
During the school board's regular monthly meeting, Cartlidge said the existing policy “does reflect the fact that passing here is too low.”
Currently, the district's 10-point grading scale awards and “A” to scores 90-100; a “B” to scores 80-89; a “C” to scores 70-79; a “D” to scores 60-69; and an “F” to scores below 60.
