The Yazoo Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its May 17, 2012 meeting in the home of Sue Patterson.  
The Ritual was conducted by Marsha Williams and JoAnne Collins. Officers’ and Chairmen’s reports were given. The presentation of a silver tray by Janet Looney Whittington, MSSDAR State Regent from the MSSDAR for the U.S. MS Atomic Submarine, was discussed. This took place at the official commissioning of the submarine on June 2 in Pascagoula.
The anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America was planned. The Delta District Meeting will be held July 28 in Southaven. There will be more information about the District Meeting in the summer MSSDAR Newsletter.  
The program was given by Marsha Williams on Caroline Scott Harrison, wife of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison.  She was the first President General of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband both had close ties to signers of the Declaration of Independence: John Witherspoon, the only clergy to sign, was her great grandfather, and Benjamin Harrison V was her husband’s great grandfather. Caroline brought the first Christmas tree into the White House starting a tradition that continues today.  She also located and categorized all the previous White House china up to that time expect for Andrew Jackson’s.  An accomplished artist herself, she designed the china for her husband’s administration.  This china was later used by First Ladies Eleanor Roosevelt and Jacqueline Kennedy.
