Wicker says he hopes flood insurance will be fixed

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker said he hopes Congress can fix the problems with the National Flood Insurance Program during the next two months.
Speaking to a joint meeting of the Yazoo City Lions Club and Yazoo Rotary Club Thursday, Wicker said the Senate has some good ideas to improve the program while restoring financial stability.
The House passed the Senate’s 60-day extension of the existing program on Wednesday. Wicker said the biggest obstacle is currently the refusal of Senate leadership to bring proposed changes to the floor for a vote.
“We have created some pretty good reforms that would save the taxpayers money, but Sen. Harry Reid won’t bring it forward,” Wicker said.
