J.W. HUGHES
J. W. Hughes, 85, died, Friday morning May 25, 2012 at his home in Benton.
Funeral services were Monday at Scotland Baptist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Hughes was born in Benton to the late Jim and Ila Cochran Hughes. He attended Benton Schools and was a WWII Army veteran, serving overseas in the Philippines. He was a lifelong resident of Yazoo County and a longtime member of Scotland Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and song director for over 61 years.
Jay was known to many in his community, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was employed as a service technician at Sears for many years, as well as farmed and raised cattle.
J. W. loved the Lord and put Him first in his life. He loved the church and his church family, never missing church services unless he was sick. He is now with his Savior whom he dearly loved.
He leaves behind his wife of over 64 years, Emma Creel Hughes;  children, Pat Carver (Kirk), Clair Helms (Tom), Rita Napier, Kathy McKeithen (Willie), Shirley Stewart (Rick), BeLinda Sanders (Richard), Mike Hughes (Allison), Pamela Thomas (Kenny); 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sisters, Maggie Scroggins Griffin and Helen Reyer Cogburn; many nieces, nephews; extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by two precious grandchildren, Jason Peoples and Emily Helms; his siblings; Dempsey, Marvin, Harris, Earl and Charlotte Hughes; many nieces, nephews and extended family and a host of friends.

HILDA WELLS
Hilda Wells, 90, died Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Funeral services were Tuesday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Emerson Tedder officiating. Burial followed at Ogden Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Wells was born Sept. 8, 1921 in Yazoo County to Green and Mattie Shackleford Sadler. She was a retired food service employee for Jackson Public Schools and a member of Ogden Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas T. Wells Jr.; and a son, Thomas David Springer.
Survivors include a son, Thomas T. Wells (Shana) of Spring, Texas; daughter-in-law, Bella Springer of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

MARY WISELY
Mary Elizabeth Baker Wisely was born in Murphysboro, Ill. on Oct. 15, 1920. She married Alden Hubert Wisely in June of 1940, and they had two children, their daughter Sue Wisely Green and son, Albert Aldern “Sonny” Wisely.
She was a talented seamstress and loved crafts, especially piecing quilts and crocheting. Her afghans were beautiful, and she freely gave them as gifts.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Yazoo City. She was surrounded by her loving family when she went home to meet the Lord on Sunday, May 20 after a short illness. Prior to her passing, she was able to spend a wonderful Mother’s Day with her family.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, nine siblings, and her husband and son. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Wisely Green and son-in-law, Jim Green; daughter-in-law, Carol Wisely; grandchildren, Jason Green (Letty) and Chad Green (Shannon), Shawn Wisely and Todd Wisely; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Whitney Green.
She was laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Murphysboro, Ill. Memorials may be made to St. Jude or Blair Batson children’s hospitals or a charity of your choice.
