New children’s librarian expanding youth programs

Renee’ Hawkins has some big plans for Ricks Memorial Library.
Coming aboard as the new children’s librarian, she is ready to remind both children and adults within the community about the gem that is located within the library’s walls.
“I am working on some programs to bring the children back to the library,” she said. “A lot of the children don’t even know about the library.”
The Georgia native recently arrived in Yazoo City from the Humphreys County library system. After being a stay-at-home mother for several years, she was ready to get back to the library world.
“In junior high and high school, I always worked in the library,” she said. “But I have always liked to read.”
Aside from a possible profession, the library served as a safe haven for Hawkins through the years.
