The Four Seasons Garden Club recently held its meeting with a discussion on container gardening. Pictured from left are Jean Santmyer, Nancy Williams, Rose Anderson and Shirley Simmons. Special to The Herald
The Four Seasons Garden Club met in the home of Rose Anderson for their May meeting. Hostesses were Shirley Simmons and Rita Sanders.
The program was on container gardening, which was given by Jeanne Santmyer, club president, and Nancy Williams, club secretary and treasurer.
Jeanne demonstrated how to pot several herbs in a large terra cotta pot. She used a larger rosemary plant for the center surrounded by basil, coriander, lat leaf and parsley. She also potted several like size hand painted small pots with orange zinnias.
Nancy planted a large ceramic pot belonging to Rose Anderson. She used Purple Fountain Grass, Coleus, Dragon Wing Begonia, Petunia, Angelonia, Sweet Caroline and Blackie Sweet Potato Vines.
A discussion of designing with container plants, choice plants for container gardening and the care and feeding of container plants was very informative for everyone.
A delicious assortment of homemade pies were served by the hostesses. The club’s next meeting will be in September for the 2012-2013 season.
