Ready to lead, but where are they headed?

Walter Patterson Herald ColumnistWalter Patterson Herald ColumnistRyan Brown, the chairman of the Rankin County Democrat Executive Committee, wrote a letter to the Clarion-Ledger last week explaining why Democrats should flock to the Golden Moon Resort to elect officers who will serve for the next four years.  I read the letter with more than a little interest since the headline read: “Democrats are ready to lead.”
What makes this letter so interesting is that Mr. Brown admits that he lost his job recently, and had to “get to work seeking employment.”  Guess who Mr. Brown blamed for his job loss?   Republicans, of course.
He fails to see that the Democrats are already leading.  They led him to the unemployment line.
Democrats and Republicans think differently and, consequently, solve problems differently. Democrats want credit for their “good intentions,” while Republicans are more practical. Republicans want government to work for everyone while Democrats want to raise taxes and spend the taxpayer’s money. This is called the redistribution of wealth. If the programs they are funding do not work, their remedy is to expand the programs, and spend even more money.
The problem with Mr. Brown’s letter is that he apparently doesn’t understand what is happening on the national level.  If you had the opportunity to read what he had to say you may conclude, unbelievably, that he does not know that Barack Obama, a liberal Democrat, is president.  He fails to understand that when Mr. Obama came into office, both the Senate and the House were controlled by Democrats.  Do the names Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi ring a bell?
Republicans could do nothing to stop the Democrat onslaught on the U. S. Treasury or on anything else .  In less than 4-years, Mr. Obama and the Democrats have borrowed over $5 trillion dollars from China and whoever else they can convince to lend us money.  Under the Obama administration, unemployment has soared.  There is a reason for this.  Private enterprise and the private sector have come under withering attacks from this “progressive” administration.  Money has been taken from the private sector to fund an ever increasing government, and if Obamacare is not declared unconstitutional or if the Congress does not rescind it, the country is absolutely doomed.  Already, Social Security, according to the government’s own analysis, will be broke by 2033.  Medicare will be broke by 2021, perhaps sooner if the economy does not turn around and if Congress continues to do business in the most irresponsible way possible.
Mr. Brown continues, “It is not enough for Democrats to simply oppose what the Republican leadership offers.  We have seen this play out in Washington where the Republican Congress says no “to any notion of compromise.” Let me remind Mr. Brown that the Democrats own the Senate and the Presidency.  The Constitution requires that the Congress prepare a budget every year.  No budget has been passed in nearly 3 years by the Democrats.  Over 1000 days have passed, and yet the Democrats have never submitted a budget.  The Republicans, under the leadership of Paul Ryan, have submitted two sensible budgets, and yet, when it gets to the Democrat Senate no action is taken.  Compromise?  Who could ever compromise with the likes of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi leading the charge?  To make matters worse, if a sensible budget did pass both Houses of Congress, then Mr. Obama can veto it, and that means it is dead.  The Republicans do not have “veto proof” majorities in either House.
Before Republicans took over in Mississippi, the State was deeply in debt.  The Democrats, like they always do, were in their “tax and spend” mode, and had realistic policies not been implemented by the Republicans, Mississippi would be another California or Michigan.  The debt would be so high that none of our children would ever see a debt free Mississippi.
We see what is happening on the national level.  Many thinking Americans with “skin in the game” are beginning to think that it may be too late to turn our economic engine around.  Democrat leadership to this point has been a complete failure.
My suggestion to Mr. Brown is that he gets a dose of reality.  Then and only then would he realize that his party has been leading for the last six years, and where are we?  Broke and in debt.
