City considers amnesty day

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

City leaders are working through the final details to allow those owing certain unpaid fines to have a little leniency in an effort to collect money.
With almost $500,000 in the books for unpaid fines to the police department, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen began brainstorming a few weeks ago at ways to bring in the money.
The police department has tried several things in the past including releasing a list of those with unpaid fines to be published in The Yazoo Herald.
The board even tossed around the idea of allowing an amnesty day during its last board meeting. Sarah O’Reilly-Evans, board attorney, presented a proposal to the board Monday of how they can handle the mountain of unpaid fines.
