SPECIAL EDUCATION
DEPARTMENT CONDUCT
CHILD FIND ACTIVITIES

The Yazoo County School District is participating in an on-going effort to identify, locate, and evaluate children through the age of twenty-one (21) who are physically, mentally, communicatively, educationally, and/or emotionally disabled.  Early identification of children in need of special education services is important to each child.
The child find director implements child identification, location, and evaluation of children from birth through the age twenty-one (21) who are disabled, regardless of the severity of their disabilities, and who are in need of special education and/or related services.  The director works with the local head starts, welfare, health department, and mental health agencies, as well as local education agencies, private schools, physicians, and other individuals to identify and locate in-/out-of-school children who may be in need of special education services.
Once a referral is made, the child find director will insure that the referral-to-placement procedures are followed.  The director works with the teacher support team and the local survey committees at each school to implement this procedure.
The Yazoo County School District has special education classes, which serve students who have physical, mental, communicative, educational, and/or emotional disabilities.  Related services such as transportation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, adaptive P.E., counseling, and transitional support are also provided as needed.
Individuals who feel their child is in need of Special Education Services, or have questions regarding these services are asked to contact Delorris C. Smith at
