FRANK BROOCKS
Frank J. Broocks, 83, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Haggard, Rev. Wayne Johnson and Rev. George Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Broocks was born March 24, 1929 in Yazoo County to Housman and Irene Lanehart Broocks. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired operator for Mississippi Chemical Corporation and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Broocks of Yazoo City; a son, Johnny Broocks of Ridgeland and two sisters, Edna Earl Broocks of Raymond and Elizabeth Smith of Pascagoula.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeffrey Broocks, Spencer Broocks, Jason Camp, Matthew Register, Mark Broocks, Jonathan Broocks, Kevin Camp, Clint Camp and Christopher Broocks.

ELIZABETH BROWN
Elizabeth H. Brown, 78, of New Port Richey, Fla. died Friday, March 23, 2012.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Glenwood Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown was born in Yazoo City to Wyatt and Ruth Holloway and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki King.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Bill Brown; a son, Eddie Brown (Annissa) of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; a granddaughter, Tamar King; and grandsons, Matthew and Thomas Brown.

DAVIS MALONE
Joel Davis Malone, 38, of McKinney, Texas died Saturday March 24, 2012.  
Funeral services are today at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas.  Burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.  
Mr. Davis was born January 20, 1974 to Daniel Luby Malone and Dorothy Davis Malone in Bogalusa, La.  He was a student at Benton Academy before moving to Texas where he graduated from Robinson High School in 1992. He continued his education at Texas A&M University and Baylor University.   He married Sharla Streetman on August 22, 1992 in Waco, Texas.  He was employed by Xtera Communications and a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Waco, Texas.   
Survivors include his wife, Sharla Malone of McKinney,  Texas; children, Briton and Marin Malone, also of McKinney; parents, Daniel and Dorothy Malone of China Spring, Texas; brothers, Danny Malone, Jr. (Sherry) of Strong, Ark., Darrell Malone  (Kim) of Benton; and a sister, Dana Pearson (Mike) of Waco, Texas.  

WILLIAM McCONNELL
William Kevin McConnell, 55, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Monday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home  with Rev. David Bryant and Rev. Lewis Kalil officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. McConnell was born Oct. 18, 1956 in Yazoo County to James W. and Jeanne Glisson McConnell. He was a driller for Cactus Drilling Company and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, William McConnell (Desiree) of Natchez; stepdaughter, Weesee Bumgarner of Natchez; parents, J.W. and Jeanne McConnell of Yazoo City; three brothers, Clay McConnell, Mike McConnell and Bubba McConnell, all of Yazoo City; and a grandson, Parker McConell of Natchez.
Serving as pallbearers were Tommy Book, Edward Corley, George McConnell, Bill Woodell, Darrell Glisson, Patrick Eldridge and Dale Roark.

REV. ROY WILLIAMS
Rev. Roy Presley Williams, 80, of Bentonia died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Monday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Curtis Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Fletcher’s Chapel Cemetery.
Rev. Williams was born Dec. 21, 1931 in Pickens to James P. and Fannie Elizabeth Lewis Williams. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired minister.
Survivors include his wife, Annie W. Williams of Bentonia; two daughters, Debra Girrard of Betrice, Neb. and Belinda Niven of Benton; three sons, Mitchell Williams of Clinton, David Williams of Bentonia and Daniel Williams of Flora; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Roger Williams, Greg Williams, Cody Williams, Jimmy Williams, Dustin Williams an Eric Girrard.

LENA WRIGHT
Lena Griffin Wright, 91, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Olive Branch Nursing Home in Tallulah, La.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home in Vicksburg with Rev. Tony Winkler and Rev. Teddy Crotwell officiating. Burial followed at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie R. Moses Howell and Annie Laura Barrett Howell; two brothers, Lee Howell and Jimmy Howell; and a son, Howard Corbin Griffin.
Survivors include her son, Clement Moses Griffin of Moscow, Tenn.; daughter, Omega Lucille Griffin of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 
Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:
In the 6 April 2013 edition of The Yazoo Herald you published a letter from Cynthia Fuller, "Thanks to (Van) Foster for helping get bridge replaced."
After reading this lettter, I had the impression that the bridge was completed and traffic was moving along normally.  
Wrong!  Last Sunday I was on my way to homecoming at Providence Baptist Church.  I turned north onto old 49 and saw the signs that the bridge was out.  I assumed that they hadn't gotten around to removing the signs.  I expected to cross Thompson Creek on the new bridge.  When I approached the creek the road was barricaded and construction equipment was down in the creek.
Perhaps The Herald can keep us updated as to the progress being made on the new bridge.
