In October of 2011 two Yazoo Valley Electric employees had an opportunity to use their career skills to change some lives.
Eric Woods and Nathan Sanders traveled to Guatemala to help bring power to people, many who had never had electricity in their homes.
They volunteered along with members of other power associations for the trip, which was sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association  International.
“It was a chance to go somewhere I’d otherwise never get  to see, but even more it was a chance to help some people,” Woods said.
The crew flew to Guatemala City where the embarked on a four-hour bus ride. It was a bumpy ride on dirt roads, and the bus had a flat tire  along the way.
Once they arrived the weather wasn’t anything like they expected.
