Levee decertification will likely be delayed

By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

The proposed decertification of Yazoo County’s levees could be delayed for up to three years.
Bill Sheppard and William Dodd with the Mississippi Levee Board told county officials Friday that new developments will likely delay the decertification of the levees for at least a couple of years.
“But that’s not to say that the banks won’t require people with mortgages to have flood insurance,” Sheppard said. “We just heard that Wells Fargo will be requiring residents in the Jackson area that are protected by levees to buy flood insurance. The banks can do what they want.”
