Local educators learn about retirement system

The Yazoo County Retired Education Personnel Association met Feb. 23 in the D. D. Waiver building at the Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Complex.
President Barbara Moore called the meeting to order.
The devotional was given by Walter Moore. Virginia Scott led the group in singing My Country, Tis of Thee.
The pledge of allegiance was recited.
The minutes were read and approved and Essie Gaines gave the treasurer’s report.
Dr. Linda Norwood, the state REPM president, presented the program. She was most informative about the public’s employees’ retirement system.
Members need to get involved in the public schools, work harder to make the local unit stronger, know the legislative bills and the benefits of PERS. She distributed member handbooks to serve as a general reference.
There was a state meeting on March 13 at the R & D Center in Jackson.
Door prizes were awarded and refreshments were served. The next meeting will be March 22.
