Voter turnout very low in Yazoo County

ColemanColemanBy JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Half of Yazoo County voters didn’t even show up at the polls during the primary election this week.
With about 18,000 registered voters, only about 4,300 casted their votes Tuesday.
But Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said he didn’t expect a large turnout at the polls this week.
“The turnout was very low, but I think it was because there wasn’t a contested local election,” Coleman said. “It seems as if there isn’t a lot of interest if there isn’t a local election.”
