New historic district proposed

CartwrightCartwrightBy JAMIE PATTERSON

A local preservation group has set the wheels in motion for another possible historical district within Yazoo City.
The Yazoo Historic Preservation Commission appeared before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen this week with proposals for adding another historic district to the city. With two historic districts, the group is optimistic of the benefits that would come with tourism.
“The Development Authority suggested making another separate district,” said Kay Mills, with the commission. “The preservation commission is proposing an area that would be beneficial to historic preservation, particularly down Grand Avenue.”
Modern houses or those who do not wish to be included in the district can be carved out in future phases of the districting.
