District searching for special needs

Special to The Herald

In an attempt at early identification of children in need of Special Education services, the Yazoo City Municipal School District is presently participating in an ongoing, statewide effort to identify, locate and evaluate children through the age of 21 years who are physically, mentally, communicatively, educationally and/or emotionally disabled. In this effort, the Yazoo City Municipal School District works with the local Head Start, welfare, health and mental health agencies, private schools, daycare facilities, physicians and other healthcare individuals in the community.
Information gathered through this effort will endure that appropriate education and services children that are identified through this process. Also, it helps to determine present and future programs in achieving the goal of providing a free, appropriate public education to all disabled children.
For more information, please call Tempie Walker at 746-2125 or come by the district central office on Calhoun Avenue.
