Ricks Library to host book signing with Jackson author

Special to The Herald

Ricks Memorial Library will host a book signing with CTM Cooper on March 27 from 10 a.m. until noon.
Cooper’s book, God Sent Us Angels In The Form Of Good White Folks, was launched in September 2011 with the first signing in November 2011.
The book is the story of Cooper’s mother and Cooper as they worked as maids in white family homes in Jackson during the 1950s and 60s. It is viewed by many readers as the opposite of the book The Help.
The book tells of how during the high of the Civil Right Era, the white families Cooper’s mother worked for did amazing and wonderful things for her family as a whole, even contributing to her own education.
Cooper said that her mother always wanted to write a book. So she started writing the book in 2005 with her help.
When her mother died in 2008, Cooper finished the book in her mother’s honor.
The book is also endorsed by former governor William F. Winter.
“This is a heart-warming memoir about the relationship and experiences of an African American woman and her mother in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1950s and 60s,” Winter wrote with his endorsement. “It is written from a perspective which portrays how in that stressful time in the Deep South, there existed strong bonds of love and affection between many black and white people that transcended racial separation and alienation.”
