Garden party opens ‘little season’
Special to The Herald
The Governing Board of the Southern Debutante Assembly introduced the honorees for 2010 at a late afternoon garden party on May 28 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller Powers in Greenwood.
The event was among the first of the “little season,” which will continue throughout the summer.
The debutantes, pages and page escorts will be formally presented at the Assembly’s White and Gold Ball in December.
Seated at the registry table were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lorrain Tindall of Indianola.
Surrounded by ancient oaks and magnolias, the manicured lawn behind the home was the setting for the gathering of guests and honorees. Under a large tent, citrus punch was served from an heirloom crystal punchbowl on a center table skirted in cream linen with a pink overlay.
The focal point on the center table was a massive arrangement of blue-tipped hydrangeas, pink snapdragons, pink Tuscan roses, pink asters, Queen Anne’s lace and umbrella palm in a silver chased urn. Smaller complimentary arrangements in silver bowls were centered on adjoining tables offering a selection of hors d’oeuvres.
