Gov. Haley Barbour will cut the ribbon on downtown Yazoo’s newest large employer Monday.
The public is invited to join the governor and officials with the Miss. Department of Human Service and Child Support Services of Mississippi Monday at 9 a.m. The building is located at 118-128 Jefferson Street across from the Yazoo County School District Central Office.
The call center is now in operation, and will employ 80 people when it is fully staffed. The average salary will be around $24,000 with benefits.
“The goal of the program is not just to collect child support, but also to encourage fathers to be fathers,” CEO Robert Wells said, when he announced the center was coming to Yazoo.
Henry Cote, president of the Yazoo Chamber of Commerce, said the new job creation has provided a tremendous boost to downtown Yazoo City.
“I think it’s the start of good things to come,” Cote said. “There is a lot of activity right now, and we hope to build on the momentum.”
