Mavs come to life for win
By TAYLOR MITCHELL
When Monday night’s game between Manchester and Deer Creek began, the sun was still visible on the horizon. By the third inning, though, it was completely gone.
However, as the sun went down, the Mavericks got hot. Starting with the bottom of the third, Manchester scored three runs in each of the next four innings to close out a 12-3 victory over Deer Creek.
Despite the one-sided final score, it was Deer Creek who was hot when the first pitch was tossed. The Warriors got on the board first in the top of the second with an RBI double with two outs. With runners on third and second, though, Manchester’s Will Stonestreet struck out the sixth batter of the inning to escape with just one run allowed.
The next inning, Deer Creek took advantage of some wild pitches and walks to add two runs to their lead. Just like last time, though, Stonestreet got out of the inning with a strikeout.
