World Thinking Day was created in 1926 at an international Girl Guide/Girl Scout conference in the United States. Attendees decided there should be a special day when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all around the world “think” of each other and give thanks and appreciation to their “sister” Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
Each year on or about Feb. 22, girls participate in World Thinking Day to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of USA is part of a global community, one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
On Feb. 20, Girl Scouts from Yazoo County joined together to celebrate World Thinking Day. They learned about the culture, customs and scouting in different countries, along with tasting food from these countries.
They exchanged SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere), a Girl Scout tradition of exchanging keepsakes, which started long ago when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides first gathered for fun, song and making new friends.
This year Girl Scouts learned about Russia (Troop 5064), Greece (Troop 5362), China (Troop 5442), Japan ( Troop 5479), India (Troop 5462) and Mexico (Troop 5488).
