One of Jimmy Pickens’ greatest joys late in his life was watching his grandson Garrett pitch for the Delta State University baseball team.
A scholarship has been established in his memory that may create opportunities for other proud grandfathers to experience that joy.
Pickens died in January at age 67 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was an avid supporter of his grandson and Delta State University baseball.
“Garrett could always count on his faithful grandfather to be sitting in the stands,” said Karen Carnahan, who worked to establish the Jimmy Pickens Memorial Fund.
