Retired merchant Sibley dies at 86

Retired Yazoo City businessman Paul Lamar Sibley died this week at the age 86.
Mr. Sibley was in the office machine business and retired as owner of Sibley Office Equipment in Yazoo City in 1992.
He died on Feb. 21 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Sibley was born  on May 27, 1925 in Louise to Chester Calvin and Mary Daisy Matthews Sibley. He was their last surviving child.
A faithful member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, he served as Lay Leader, Trustee and Sunday School teacher.    
He was also past president of the SE Jurisdiction of the National Office Machine Dealers Association and a Boy Scout leader.  
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Old Hickory 30th Infantry Division, 117th Regiment, European Campaign and is featured in the Old Hickory Documentary.  He was a life member in the Sons of Confederate Veterans, helping found and serving as Adjutant in the Mechanicsburg Corridor Camp 1704.  
Aside from his civic and church duties, he was known as a servant and friend.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Garland, James, Ray and Doyle Sibley; and four sisters, Louise Bowen, Daisy Mae Parks, Annie Berle Cheney and Ruth Puckett.  
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Mernette Daniel Sibley; three sons, Danny (Rebecca) Sibley of Orangeburg, S.C., Calvin (Cathy) Sibley of Mechanicsburg and Dwight (Michele) Sibley of Redwood.  
He cherished his six grandchildren, Amanda Sibley (Robb)Herring of Mechanicsburg, John Paul (Laurie) Sibley of Greenville, S.C., Caleb (Heather) Sibley of Phoenix, Jennifer Sibley of Greenville, S.C., and Kristin and Aaron Sibley of Redwood.  
He was Papaw to his three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Robbie, and Brynn Sibley of Greenville, S.C..  
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. at Stricklin King Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 23, with service and burial at Mt. Olivet UMC at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb.24.
Rev. Skipper Maxwell and Rev. John Paul Sibley will be officiating.  
Pallbearers will be John Paul Sibley, Caleb Sibley, Aaron Sibley, and Robb Herring, Michael Sibley and John Martin.
