The small church looks out onto the town, high above the mist on top of a hill.
The plots of land around it are consumed by the earth as Yazoo clay shifts below the surface.
Many homes have been devoured by the ground over the years. And it takes a little longer to travel over the knotty roads leading up to the church.
But Beulah Land M.B. Church stands proud on its patch of dirt. The land shifts seem to stop at her boundaries.
The church remains solid, strong...just like its congregation.
“We’re a small group here,” said Clementine Davis, who has been a member of the church for over 50 years. “We are one little happy family.”
The strong ties of Beulah Land begin in 1900 when the church was organized by the late Rev. Lee Holt and his wife.
The area was packed with settlers, but there wasn’t a ministry or church for miles. In fact, the area was so cut off from other communities that the nearest church was overflowing with people and had run out of room.
